The International Festival and Contest “George Enescu”

The International Festival and Contest “George Enescu was set up in 1958 in recognition of the great Romanian composer’s genius, to honor his life and activity.. The first editions of this Festival and Contest joined resonant names from the international music world, among which Lord Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter, Herbert von Karajan and many others, who, by participating, made this East European event even more famous.  

It is considered the most important cultural event in contemporary Romania,   a brilliant landmark that gets people closer to one another and ennobles them by way of culture. The jubilee XXth edition took place between 1- 25 September 2011 and included symphonic and chamber concerts, recitals, opera and ballet shows, held both in Bucharest halls and in historical towns linked with the Romanian composer’s life and activity.
